Beginning.

All right, new blog!

I guess to start I will tell you a little about myself.
My name is Andrea, an environmental science student at MRU. I've always been interested in the environment and the ecosystems that surround us. My parents could be classified as hippies, and I grew up recycling, composting, and growing our own food. In the summers we would vacation at a cabin in BC that my grandparents built. It is off the grid, no electricity, propane stove, and a barrel of lake water for dishes. I loved it there, everything about it. And as a result of growing up in this low impact sustainable way, I am now a little obsessed with being environmentally friendly.
So that brings us to the present moment. I've recently moved out, and I've taken my family values with me. I recycle avidly, and have just recently built my own compost bin for organic waste. We don't own any harsh chemical cleaners, instead we use natural non-toxic household items.
I feel like I have many good ideas, simple tips and tricks for making our existent ever more sustainable. We as a society need to be responsible, and more knowledgeable about our impacts individually and as a whole.
So that's why I've started this blog. It's my way of sharing my knowledge to anyone willing to listen.
I will try and post regularly, random tidbits and tricks that I use on a regular basis and find helpful.

Stay posted!
 :)
