That title is not the cat walking on the keyboard after I've typed my name. No, rather it is a class of non vascular plants, which contain mosses, like those found in the order Andreaeopsida. I've just recently learned a fun little mnemonic to remember the division of evolution: "Dutch king Phillip came over for green spinach" or : Binomial nomenclature is when we name things with two Latin words. These words are the  Genus and the species. Species  being the most specialised branch of the tree of life, whereas kingdoms can be seen more as the trunk of the family tree. The three main kingdoms are Animals, Plants and Fungi.  When I mention class and order in the first paragraph, I'm talking about a branch that forks off around the middle of the time line of evolution. Litter pick up

This past long weekend me and some friends went to Elbow falls for a day hike. We followed the river down as far as we could go, and I picked up any trash I found along the way. Most of what I picked up were single use bottled water, and beer cans. Beautiful Elbow falls. This is a bag I filled with various water bottles. 6 single use and one Nalgene bottle. Beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery. Too bad it was marred with the remnants of past hikers' garbage. A few things I pulled out of the river On the way I also found 5 doggy bags in various states of decomposition. People just leave the dog bags out in the woods because they didn't want to carry it all the way back. If that's the case why pick it up in the first place? Dog poop biodegrades. Plastic doesn't. New Job at the ABCRC

It's been a while, but now that my last full semester is over I have a bit more time! I've started my new summer work term as part of my applied degree in environmental science. I'm working as a Love to Recycle Ambassador with the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation. Our team members go out to various events as well as schools to educate the public and children about the importance of recycling beverage containers, and offering them resources to improve recycling infrastructure. I'm very excited to be back in the recycling and education field, because I truly believe it to be an integral part in improving the culture around sustainable actions. Even on my second  day I've learnt so many things! Here's a few of them: Juiceboxes can be made into toilet paper! water bottles can be turned into clothing!
